Curtain Help

Okay, who has sewed curtains before? I need some help! I made some curtains for Bryn's room but they didn't turn out how I was envisioning them. I read somewhere that you should sew your curtains so that they touch the floor... so they don't look like "floods". I tried doing that, but now they kind of lay funny and I think maybe it's because they're a little bit too long? Should I make them just a little bit shorter, like barely above the floor?? Also, they looked kind of wide, so I tried making little "belts" (for lack of the proper term) to try to tame them a little bit. I haven't finished the "belts" yet because when I pinned them up I thought they looked dorky. And I'm not sure about the color. Maybe I should just forget about the belts and take 6-8 inches off the width of each curtain, so they're not so full. And then I'd have to make the curtain rod not as wide. Or maybe I should just leave the curtains as they are?? So please tell me your opinion, should I make them shorter or leave the length? And should I leave the "belts", cut off 6-8 inches off the sides, or just leave them? I'm kind of leaning towards no belts, but I don't know.
I know there are much more important things to be worrying about, but I just need a little advice :)

I think the length is perfectly fine! Would leave exactly as-is. I'm really impressed with your sewing of curtains- and would love to know how you made them- is it a "French pleat"?
And I think the curtains look awesome as-is without the belts. Withiout i think it makes the room look carefree relaxed a adorable.

Ok that's my two cents!

I don't have any curtain advice for you, but I love your bird mobile. I made ALL the birds for that mobile, but never hung them! You have inspired me to finish! I just need to find the sticks!

I like the curtains! I heard once that if you don't like the length, you can move up the curtain rod--easier than fixing the curtain. You could just hold the curtain rod up and see if you like it better shorter, or better yet, let Josh hold the rod up and you size it up! I think they are great, but I know how sometimes when you want a certain thing, you need to experiment a little.

I would say...take a few inches off the bottom, and lose the belts. That sounded harsh, but I'm not in love with them, either, and as a fellow art major...I know you can handle it. :) I think that it might add a little somethin' somethin' to put something sheer in the middle. The contrast right now is a little bit stark. If you put the sheer in the middle (not right away, but eventually), it might soften things up a bit. But what do I know?

Also - I love the color of the belts. What if you did a small stripe or two at the top and bottom of the curtain to bring that color into things? A thin strip up top, a thicker toward the bottom. I know you can handle balancing it artistically, but that might help if you want to go with the belt. I LOVE the fabric you chose. As usual. :)

I don't kow who that is that commented before me, but I agree with her. Only 1 or 2 inches off of the bottom would help, especially because they are in a little kids room and I think a longer curtain looks to formal, but they should still come right to the floor. I Also love the idea of a strip of fabric along the bottom. It would go great with the geometric pattern.

Ummmm... Laura, this is your husband, Josh. I'm not touching that rod again but I would be willing to shear off a few inches off the bottom with some pruners. Or, we could always roll up the bottom and staple it??

As far as the belt goes how about using my avocado green scout belt? There's enough length in that belt to get two curtain belts, and the avocado will really bring out the turquoise.

I'm not an expert here, but I think I would take just a bit off the bottom in length. So they don't quite touch the floor, but close. I really like the color of the belts. You did an amazing job on those curtains. I've been meaning to tackle curtains for Ethan's room, but I'm scared to do it, haha. Good luck!

I love the fabric. I love the room. Nate Burkus says to hang the rod as high as possible to make the room bigger. If Josh is like Jason , the rod is staying right there!! Good luck. I think it is adorable.
